An introduction to

Word & Life Publications started operating in 1989 (National Bible Year), with the main aim of helping the people of God to know God's Word better and put in into practice.

The name Word & Life , dynamically synthesizes this objective, while the logo (the book of the Bible shedding its light on the Philippines) visualizes the role of God's word in the life of the Filipino nation.

Its mother publication is the bi-monthly magazine Word & Life , now available in Filipino and English and accompanied by a Teacher's Guide

Word and Life Publications has also ventured into the production of other catechetical materials both in English and the vernacular.

In 1994 it co-published The Promise, a striking presentation of the Old Testament for young people; and Learning to Live and Love, a series of modules of sex education for teenagers, consisting of a Teacher's Manual and Student's Materials.

In the same year it published also an original New Way of the Cross in poster size, pamphlets, and video tape.

In 1997, it co published with ECCCE the Catechism for Filipino Catholics, the National Catechism prepared by the Episcopal Commission on Catechesis and Catholic Education (ECCCE) and approved by Rome.

In the same year, 1997, it launched Exploring God's Word, a quarterly publication aimed at helping the youth, Bible groups, and BEC's to get a good grasp of the Sunday Bible Readings.

Every issue of Exploring God's Word is accompanied by a detailed Teacher's Notes, while the general methodology is explained in a concise Teacher's Manual.

In 1999, Word & Life published Dies Domini (John Paul II's Apostolic Letter on the Sunday observance), accompanied by the suitable illustrations, contextualizations and commentaries by Filipino authors. In the same year, it also published Landas ng Pagpapakabanal, a short presentation of Filipino spirituality, and it started publishing the liturgical weeklies Euchalette and Patnubay sa Misa.

In the year 2000, the major editorial enterprises of W & L have been the production of the New Way of the Cross in mini-poster size; the publication of the Katekismo para sa mga Pilipinong Katoliko, and the launching of the liturgical quarterly The Word of God.
